Just minutes from boarding our next flight, I experienced what I now know as an open vision. At the time It was like I had somehow seen a small video before my very eyes of myself in the cockpit of a commercial jet airliner praying with a co-pilot.
My imagination was running wild as I walked down the jetway. I knew that once I set foot in the plane I would get a chance to look into the cabin.
I followed my wife as we stepped into the airplane. She moved right, down the isle to find her seat. Instead of following her my curiosity overtook me and I turned left to look inside the cockpit. As I’m peering into his office the co-pilot spots me and proceeds to wave me in!
Without saying anything to my wife I took him up on his offer and stepped into the cockpit. After introducing myself and telling him why I was in Brazil I prayed over him and the flight. Knowing that I need to take my seat I turned to leave, but when I turned around I was surprised to find the Captain standing behind me. Nervously I tried to quickly explain why Im standing in his cockpit. After I tell him that I had just prayed for the co-pilot. He says to me that the co-pilot will show me how to use the jump seat and that I will be flying up front with them to the next city!
With clip board in hand the captain turns and leaves the cockpit. The co-pilot and I look at each other and he says to me: “This is against international law, and every member of this crew could be fired if your caught flying in the jump seat!” But if the captain wants you to fly, well then your flying”.
My only thought is simply, I don’t care if everyone get fired, Im flying with the captain! You could have threatened to shoot a few of the crew and you still could not have been able drag me out of the cockpit.
Soon were airborne and it occurs to me that my wife, and the leadership of our team have no idea where I am. I asked the pilot if maybe someone could go back and tell my wife that Im on the plane. Moments later the steward finds my wife and says. ” Your husband is a very important man and he will be flying with the captain today”.
After we had been in the air a few minutes The captain slides his seat back and says to me. “I have met a lot of christians in my life but none like you”. “I asked you to fly with me so I can learn what makes you tick”.
“Im going to be grilled” I hear God say clearly “If you don’t know the answer say this, I don’t know” Ok got it.
The captain asks me a series of questions, my testimony, asking about hearing from God, etc…. many of the answers were “I don’t know” They were astounded by the relationship I have with Jesus and that they could be in a real relationship with Jesus also.
By now Im out of my seat and kneeling on the floor in front of the control pannel between the two pilots.
I asked this question. “Do you want what I have?” Offering an up turned hand to both men. Without hesitation both men placed their hands on mine and began to repeat a prayer of forgiveness for sin and salvation.
The plane lands and the captain and I greeted the passengers as they left the plane. And I said to our team “Thank you for flying TAM Airlines today”, bye, and bye bye. Enjoy your day!
I was sure my face would split from smiling as our team walked past the captain and I.
